Lucky Daruma Doll
A Daruma doll (Japanese: 達磨) is a traditional Japanese doll modeled after the bearded Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism, and are typically red in color.
The round shape of the doll allows it to always return to an upright position when tilted over and is characteristic of the ability to have success, overcome adversity and recover from misfortune. The Daruma is often illustrated with the phrase "Nanakorobi Yaoki" (七転八起), translated to mean "seven times down, eight times up".
Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement.
Daruma measures roughly 3" tall and a little under 3 1/8" wide. Please see photos for details.
